However, there are waterfalls near Columbus, Ohio. In fact, there is a waterfall in Dublin, Ohio that has pretty easy access to an unexpected marvel or two. Here’s what you need to know about it and the other options in the area.

Waterfall in Dublin, Ohio

I, too, was surprised to learn there was a waterfall in Dublin, Ohio, very close to the Columbus city limits. In fact, there are several. The easiest to find and most popular in the area is Hayden Falls Park (information below). There are a few additional options that are also worthy of exploration.

Hayden Falls Park

Location: 4326 Hayden Run Rd, Dublin, OH 43017, United States

Hayden Falls Park is easily located off of Hayden Run Road in Dublin, just over the Scioto River from Route 33/Riverside Drive. It does have a parking lot, however, it’s on the smaller and parking may be difficult during the park’s busy times (generally midday through early evenings on good weather days).

Once parked, proceed to the stairs. It’s a long staircase, so this park isn’t wheelchair or limited mobility accessible. However, once you reach the bottom of the stairs, the boardwalk is a flat and short walk to view the waterfall. During all of my visits, the waterfall has had a heavy fall of water.

This is best known and busiest waterfall in the Dublin and Columbus areas.

Hike difficulty: Except for the long, steep staircase, it’s an easy walk.

Additional waterfalls near Columbus, Ohio

Indian Run Falls

Location: 700 Shawan Falls Dr, Dublin, OH 43017, United States

Indian Run Falls is a hidden gem tucked into downtown Dublin. Another interesting thing is that there are two small parks right next to each other. I’ve always parked near Dublin Veterans Park (near the Dublin branch of Columbus Metropolitan Library. However, Indian Run Falls does have its own parking lot, located on Shawan Falls Drive. The path is a fairly easy walk through forest land, that’s more of an overlook path.

There aren’t any obvious paths to the bottom of the falls and though it is possible to access the creek, signs indicate that it’s forbidden to get close.

Hike difficulty: It’s not difficult, though there aren’t any obvious paths to the bottom of the falls.

Wedgewood Hills Park

Location: 4623 Sandwich Ct, Dublin, OH 43016, United States

This is a little neighborhood park that has falls located within. However, these falls aren’t always running. There’s also a playground on premises. It’s another one of those city parks that’s still in the woods, giving you the idea that you are far from the hustle and bustle of city life.

This is one I haven’t been to yet, so your mileage may vary, especially as the falls may be seasonal.

Hike difficulty: Unknown

Honorable mention: Inniswood Metro Gardens

Location: 940 S Hempstead Rd, Westerville, OH 43081, United States

Inniswood Metro Gardens is an interesting park located in Westerville (a suburb of Columbus). It has a combination of manicured gardens, trails, a few small waterfalls (most are really small), and areas for kids to play (including a playground and a water feature designed for kids). It’s a great walk and the waterfalls are beautiful, though they may not be the main reason why you’d visit this awesome park.

Hike difficulty: Most of the paths around Inniswood Metro Gardens are fairly flat, though there are some steps and small hills.

Here’s some video of additional waterfalls in Ohio.

Here are some other fun things to do in Columbus, Ohio, with kids!

Conclusion

If you’re hanging out in Columbus or Dublin and want to try hiking to a waterfall, there are several options. Hayden Falls is definitely a hidden gem in Dublin, Ohio. The waterfall there is an unexpected find in the middle of the city and it’s worth the steps to see it!

The Complete Guide to Legoland, Columbus, Ohio https://funthingsohio.com/guide-to-legoland-columbus-ohio/ Thu, 09 Jul 2020 20:16:14 +0000 https://funthingsohio.com/?p=219 Did you know there is a Legoland in Ohio? Columbus is a wonderful family destination, made even more so by the addition of a Legoland Discovery Center. There are a few important things to know before your visit. Here’s how to take your kids and have a wonderful time.

Guide to Legoland, Columbus, Ohio

Knowing what to expect the first time you  take your family to a place like this can make the day go smoothly. Being prepared can also minimize or eliminate waiting in lines – something that can make or break your day with toddlers or young kid!

5 kids (two blonde girls on the right, 2 boys with brown hair, and 1 boy with blonde hair) are sitting and facing a large, bean shaped blue tub of various legos at Legoland Columbus Ohio

Before Your Legoland Columbus Visit

It’s best to purchase your tickets in advance, especially during peak periods (spring break, winter break, and holidays), though I recommend it for anytime. If you are coming from outside of Columbus, this is the best way to ensure you will be able to visit at your chosen time or won’t be forced into a time slot that doesn’t align with your plans. Additionally, you get the best deals with advance purchase.

If you’re living on the edge, walk up tickets are available. You may have to wait until the next available time slot. If you are choosing this option, the slower times will be weekdays, during the day.

Please note: During the times of covid-19, entry is extremely limited. I strongly recommend making online reservations. Masks are currently required for entry for both adults and children. Child sized masks are for sale.

Arriving at Legoland Discovery Center

When you arrive to Easton Town Center, look to park in the West garage (closest) or East garage. These are great parking locations, though you will have to walk a bit farther if you choose the latter. Legoland is inside the mall.

Once you arrive, you will go to the front desk and present your reservation. There may be a line. Since tickets are by time slot, you will want to arrive a few minutes before you scheduled time.

Once you are allowed in, you can proceed at your own pace.

During Your Visit

The journey starts in the Lego Factory Tour. This room is fun, but it’s also something you can go through pretty quickly. Then, you’ll head to Kingdom Quest, the first ride of two rides at the Legoland Discovery Center. This ride is a lot of fun, even for adults. Next, you’ll head into the large play area which is divided into a few sections. There is Lego Friends, Lego Racers: Build and Test, Earthquake Tables, and Duplo Farm and Duplo Village for toddlers and younger kids. There is also a large play area to just build legos to your heart’s content.

In this area, you’ll also find Merlin’s Apprentice ride. Kids love this one, too!

If your kids aren’t feeling into playing with legos or building and testing out their race cars, they can climb in the Lego City Play Area.

Before you leave, be sure to check out Miniland. Minland is a small model of Ohio’s big three cities: Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincinnati. Over 1.5 million bricks make up this interactive treasure. The cities are filled with lights and moving parts. One can spend an hour just noticing all of the small details included.

Food and Drinks

There is a cafe inside of Legoland. There are beverages, sandwiches, and snacks available for sale inside the cafe.

Outside food and beverages are not permitted, except for babies and allergies.

Adults Only Nights

Adults are not permitted entry into Legoland without children. There are adults only nights, typically on the first Thursday of each month, starting at 7 pm.

Can Children Visit without an Adult

No, all children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

After Your Visit

Once you’ve ridden the rides as many times as you could, built your Lego mansion, and tired out your kids on the climbing gym, it’s time to check out the gift shop. It has a lot of cool things for sale. Easton has surprise: there’s another lego store around the corner and just outside of the main building. Lego lovers are going to love Columbus!

Legoland in Ohio location

So far, there is only a Legoland located in Columbus, Ohio. You will find it at Easton Town Center. It’s located inside the mall.

Columbus, OH 43219, United States

The West parking garage is the closest one to the Legoland.

Final Thoughts

If you’re wondering if you should include Legoland Discovery Center in your visit to Columbus, the answer is emphatically yes! Kids of all ages can enjoy this fun place, tucked into Easton Town Center mall. Come to Columbus and plan your visit to Legoland.

Can You Guess the Location of this Sparkling Temple? https://funthingsohio.com/watlao-buddhamamakaram-buddhist-temple-columbus-ohio/ Fri, 22 Mar 2019 16:22:06 +0000 https://funthingstodoinohio.com/?p=113 “You missed the exit,” I said, as we sailed on past it one cold December evening. “Ugh, the traffic is bad on the other side of the freeway. It’s going to take forever to get back to the hotel.”

My husband groaned about it and at the next exit, we decided to take the side roads. We meandered through a neighborhood and all of a sudden, I noticed a sparkling jewel in the darkness.

“What is that?” I asked.

Watt Lao Buddhamamakaram Temple

Watt Lao Buddhamamakaram temple is a Buddhist and it is in a most unexpected location. Where?

Unexpected Sight of an Amazing Buddist Temple in Ohio

Anyone who has lived in Columbus for awhile thinks it’s pretty boring, but it manages to serve up a surprise now and again. There are many fun things to do with kids. It turns out there are also a few unexpected things to see, like the Watt Lao Buddhamamakaram temple (also written as Watlao).

Pinterest Image: the temple is in the middle of the photo and the walkway leading up to it is in the foreground. Where in the World is this Temple is the caption. Have you seen Watt Lao Buddhamamakaram temple?

A Sparkling Temple in the Night

“It looks like an amazing Christmas display,” I said, with the holidays on my mind. “Or something… different.”

It was exotic. I could tell it had nothing to do with the holidays upon further inspection. It wasn’t what one normally saw on the stark, snowy Ohio landscape. Yet, there it was in front of my eyes. Watt Lao Buddhamamakaram temple doesn’t look like it belongs in Columbus and yet, there it is. It was built in 2009 and I had no idea of its existence until we stumbled upon it during our Columbus, Ohio visit.

What an amazing find!
The Watt Lao Buddhamamakaram temple in Columbus, Ohio. It is a Buddist temple, with a lot of sparkle and beautiful statues. An uncommon sight in Ohio.

The next day, my husband surprised me by taking us to the temple to take pictures. It was a rare sunny, cloudless day. The winter sun is so bright and if I thought Watt Lao Buddhamamakaram was glittery at night, the daytime sparkle was almost blinding and oh-so-beautiful. If you’re in Columbus with a car, it’s worth the drive. It’s probably only about 10-15 minutes from downtown (unless it’s rush hour).

Location of Watt Lao Buddhamamakaram

Watt Lao Buddhamamakaram is a temple located on the east side of Columbus, Ohio. If you want to see this gem for yourself, you will find it at 3624 Bexvie Ave, Columbus, OH 43227.

As always, please be respectful when visiting a place of worship. This gem is worth a visit, especially when unable to travel long distances.
